Announcement: Gdynia Business Week Press

August was an important month for Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association, as it brought the 2nd annual Gdynia Business Week.

Gdynia Business Week (GBW), inspired by Washington Business Week, is an intensive six-day program in which high school-aged students experience a simulated work environment and develop business management skills. Students are divided into groups of approximately 10. Each group of 10 represents a mock company and is led by a Seattle-based advisor, who walks their teams through business simulations and team-building exercises. In addition to classroom work with advisors, students attend lectures presented by powerful guest speakers. The week culminates with a stockholder’s presentation and tradeshow, in which companies showcased their mock-ups, business simulation summaries and final products.

2009 was the inaugural year for this program, and the accolades were impressive. Not only did it earn the City of Seattle’s “Best Single Project” award, but it also earned national recognition by earning Sister Cities International’s “Innovation: Youth & Education” award. This year was another success.

Upcoming Event: October Meeting

SGSCA took its summer break in July, and is gearing up to return to the grind. A lot has happened over the summer months, including Seattle Polish Film Festival planning, our annual summer picnic, and another successful running of Gdynia Business Week.

Please join us at our first post-summer meeting on October 8th at 7:30pm at the Polish Home. In addition to a shortened agenda, we will focus on presenting an overview of the Gdynia Business Week program, along with hearing first-hand from those who attended the program in Poland.
