August was an important month for Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association, as it brought the 2nd annual Gdynia Business Week.
Gdynia Business Week (GBW), inspired by Washington Business Week, is an intensive six-day program in which high school-aged students experience a simulated work environment and develop business management skills. Students are divided into groups of approximately 10. Each group of 10 represents a mock company and is led by a Seattle-based advisor, who walks their teams through business simulations and team-building exercises. In addition to classroom work with advisors, students attend lectures presented by powerful guest speakers. The week culminates with a stockholder’s presentation and tradeshow, in which companies showcased their mock-ups, business simulation summaries and final products.
2009 was the inaugural year for this program, and the accolades were impressive. Not only did it earn the City of Seattle’s “Best Single Project” award, but it also earned national recognition by earning Sister Cities International’s “Innovation: Youth & Education” award. This year was another success.
