Minutes: November 2009

Below are the Minutes from November’s meeting. Meetings are held the second Friday of each month at 7:30pm at the Polish Home. New members are always welcome.

Presentation on Business Week

OLD BUSINESS

  • Gdynia Business Week:  Based on the success of the Washington Business Week’s (WBW) student exchange, SGSCA has created a similar program in Gdynia. We continue to recap the success of 2009’s program, and plan for 2010’s.
    • Awaiting official word from Mayor Szczurek and the City of Gdynia, but unofficial word indicates that Gdynia Business Week 2010 will proceed.
    • Beata from Boeing Central/Eastern Europe was in Seattle for a week in late October. She pledged financial support and will help SGSCA petition to the American Chamber of Commerce for additional assistance.
    • Steve and Janice received a letter from the University of Gdansk inquiring about potential partnership and support
  • Washington Business Week:  This is an annual event; students from Gdynia come to attend Washington Business Week’s summer courses. 
    • SGSCA is planning to host 4 Polish students for 2010.
  • Film Festival:  The Film Festival committee is currently on hiatus.
    • Kick-off meeting will be held November 22.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Board Position: SGSCA would like to replace its vacant Secretary position with a Strategic Officer position.
    • In January, we will hold elections for all 4 board positions
    • Motion to nominate Janice as Strategic Officer in the interim

  • Solidarnosc Reception:  Mike  is exploring the option of holding a reception in June at the Polish Home for Solidarnosc leaders.
    • Motion to provide SGSCA support on this event

  • Paczki Challenge:  On Fat Tuesday, Metropolitan Market hosts a Paczki Challenge. SGSCA would like to assist with promotion on this event.
    • Debra has been working with Metropolitan’s PR firm
  • Polish Home Unveiling:  On November 15, the Polish Home is hosting a reception to celebrate the opening of its expanded wing.
    • Consul General Joanna Kozinska-Frybes will be in attendance
  • Guests at Future Meetings:  If you know someone who would be interested in SGSCA, or has ties to the Polish community, please invite them to our meetings.
    • Mike has invited Rev. Tony from the Catholic Seamen’s Club in Seattle for December’s meeting.
      • Mike will present Rev. Tony with a picture of the Black Madonna bought in Czestochowa
